da leao: Visit Britain are looking to find the world’s biggest Super Fan, and with so many passionate fans in both the NFL and the Premier League, there will surely be no shortage of suitors for the title.
da betcris: But the passionate fans are not the only thing that draw parallels between the two sports. Whilst on the field the two sports appear very different, a few of the positions on the pitch share a few similarities – and one such position is that of the Quarterback in the NFL.
This position certainly draws parallels with the deep-lying playmaker role in the Premier League, with the main goal of both positions to bring the play forward and secure another attack. Tom Brady is the most well-known and recognised quarterback in the NFL, but who matches his level of quality in the Premier League?
So with that being said and Visit Britain’s quest to find their Super Fan, here are the top 5 Quarterbacks in the Premier League..
Mousa Dembélé
Mousa Dembélé is an underrated member of Tottenham’s first team, but his performances this season have been absoloutely viral for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
He is the definition of deep-lying playmaker, with the Belgian regularly trying to spray balls forward to his more lethal teammates.
That is not to say that he doesn’t pose a threat going forward, though, with his knack of holding onto the ball often playing a role in Tottenham’s attacks.
Yaya Toure
Yaya Toure is a player with a number of strings to his bow.
On the surface, his powerful and direct nature doesn’t lend itself to that of a quarterback, but his passing is a hugely underrated trait.
He is able to spring balls forward at a moment’s notice, and that is what makes him such a vital member of Man City’s midfield, despite Guardiola’s desire to move him on.
Granit Xhaka
Granit Xhaka hasn’t really had the desired impact for Arsenal yet, with his poor disciplinary record coming under fire amongst Gunners fans.
His passing is something that certainly deserves more attention, though, with the midfielder proving vital for the Gunners whenever he is picked in that regard.
He isn’t the complete package yet, but when it comes to passing, there are very few betters as good as Xhaka.
Nemanja Matic
Nemanja Matic has gone under-the-radar behind N’Golo Kante this season, but his role has been an important one.
With Kante behind him, the Serbian is able to get forward more and offer a real threat – not least with the range of his passing.
He has been able to regularly assist with his impressive range of long balls, and that could be vital for Chelsea as the season hots up.
Ander Herrera
Ander Herrera has been a breakout star in the Manchester United first team this season, and with good reason.
He was the missing piece under Mourinho, and his arrival in the first team has transformed the way that the Red Devils play.
Alongside Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick, he is the player that gets attacks moving with his incredible range of passing.
