Liverpool have just two senior centre backs fit after the injuries to Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, and a surprising 63 per cent of fans polled want to bring Martin Skrtel back to Anfield.
The thought of bringing Skrtel back would certainly be met with some resistance from fans, but a short-term deal for veteran defender actually makes a lot of sense.
Skrtel was simply not good enough to take Liverpool back to the big time, but that was in his position as a starter. Surely he is good enough to be fifth choice?
Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below...
The 33 year-old will be out of contract next summer, meaning the Reds could swoop in for a nominal fee in January and make the ferocious ex-Red their new Klavan.
Klavan, like Skrtel, was slower and worse on the ball than Jurgen Klopp’s first choice defenders, but his experience was a huge asset when the Reds were struck by injuries, as they are now.
Skrtel could perform the exact same role, allowing Klopp to rotate the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez more regularly, and stepping in for cup games and in times of crisis.
The 103-cap Slovakian international was a cult hero during his last stay at Anfield, and if he scored a crucial goal in the title run-in that status would be cemented forever.
Nearly two third of fans are backing a move, and you can view the full poll results down below…
