da pixbet: It’s fair to say it’s been a mixed start to the new campaign for Newcastle United.
da marjack bet: The Magpies got off to the perfect beginning with a 2-0 win away at West Ham, before picking up just one point from their next two games in the Premier League.
The Carabao Cup however has seen Steve Bruce earn some respite, with the Tyneside club’s penalty shoot-out victory over Newport County on Wednesday earning them a quarter-final clash against Brentford in December.
And ahead of the Magpies’ return to Premier League action against Burnley on Saturday night, there is one man who absolutely deserves the chance to shine in the top-flight: Jacob Murphy.
The former Norwich starlet hadn’t featured for Newcastle since the 2018/2019 season thanks to successive loan spells at West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.
But after making his first competitive appearance for the club this campaign in the Carabao Cup victory over Blackburn, Murphy has been one of the shining lights.
The exciting winger scored one and made one in Newcastle’s 7-0 thrashing of Morecambe, before being one of the very few impressive performers in the triumph over Newport.
As per Sofascore, his 7.8 match rating was the second-highest of any Newcastle player, enjoying a 100% dribble success rate, winning an impressive eight of his nine duels, and firing off nine shots on goal.
In fact, speaking after the win against Morecambe, Bruce said: “I won’t be letting him out on loan! Not after a performance like that. He deserves to stay with us and he has improved enormously.”
Murphy has played just the 16 minutes of Premier League football this season, with his cameo against Tottenham being his only appearance in the top-flight.
But his performances in the cup have surely earned him a starting spot against Burnley, and would finally give him the chance to make good on Rafa Benitez’s proud words about him. The former Magpies boss said: “I think he’s doing really well in the training sessions – he’s one of the best in the training sessions – and he has to improve his understanding of the game. But he’s quite keen to learn, and he’s working really hard to do that.
“I think he’s a young player, a nice lad, and he understands when he needs to talk with me. We talk. We spend a lot of time doing specific work – his running with the ball, his dribbling, something like that – but he’s still a young player.”
With former Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot hailing him for his “great ability”, now is the perfect time for Bruce to unleash Murphy in the Premier League.
