Manchester United have confirmed that defender Phil Jones will miss at least another six weeks after suffering an injury in training, just days after recovering from a previous injury the Daily Mail report.
Jones is yet to feature for United so far this season and also had to withdraw from Roy Hodgson’s England squad due to his new injury that will see him miss some key games for the Red Devils over the coming weeks.
After recovering from a bout of back spasms that troubled him for weeks, Jones suffered a knee injury in training and has undergone surgery.
Jones has been injury prone since his £16.5million move from Blackburn to Old Trafford last year and the centre half position has been a worry for Sir Alex Ferguson this season with Michael Carrick having to fill in at times.
Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans have since returned to full training however but Chris Smalling is still sidelined for a similar length of time as Jones.
A statement issued by the club read: “Phil Jones has had surgery on a knee meniscus tear sustained in training that will require six to eight weeks’ rehabilitation.”
