da bet7k: Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood has told talkSPORT that only Real Madrid could tempt Harry Kane away from the club.
What’s the word?
da bwin: Whenever the transfer window rolls around, questions tend to be raised over a club’s best players.
Kane is certainly one of them at Tottenham, but he has not been a dominant figure in the gossip pages.
Manchester United have been linked to the striker in the past, but it is very unlikely that he will be wearing different club colours come August.
The 23-year-old scooped his second Golden Boot in successive seasons after scoring 29 league goals in 30 appearances.
Sherwood has been aware of Kane’s qualities for some time given that the forward was in the youth system between 2004 and 2009.
The former Aston Villa manager believes that Real Madrid could convince Kane to walk away from Spurs.
He told talkSPORT:
“I hope that he stays at Tottenham for the rest of his career. Will he stay at Tottenham for the rest of his career? I think the only danger of that would be a team in another white shirt across the water in Madrid.
“I think if Real Madrid come calling – like they did for [Luka] Modric, like they did for Gareth Bale – I think it would be a real test of the resolve of Tottenham whether they could keep him or not.”
Could Sherwood be right?
Possibly. It would be difficult for any player to resist the lure of the Bernabeu if the Spanish giants came calling.
Bale did indeed turn his back on Tottenham to taste success in Spain, and boy has he succeeded!
The Wales international has won three Champions League trophies and La Liga in just four years at the club.
Bale was around Kane’s age when he departed White Hart Lane, but the England forward is surrounded by a different Spurs team.
Mauricio Pochettino has shaped the squad into becoming Premier League title contenders, and there is a feeling that the club have enough quality in the setup to be consistent challengers.
It would not make sense for Kane to leave the North London outfit at this time, particularly as he is arguably the club’s talisman.
In a few years, if Spurs are still falling short of glory, then nobody could begrudge him a switch to Madrid.
