da brdice: According to a report in The Mirror, Gareth Bale is ready to reject a return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer as he is determined not to be forced out of his £600,000-a-week contract at Real Madrid, and it is a blessing in disguise for Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino.
What’s the word, then?
Well, the 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a move back to north London in recent weeks, with his future at the Bernabeu firmly up in the air.
The Wales international hasn’t even made the previous two matchday squads under Zinedine Zidane, who The Mirror report wants to push the attacker through the exit door.
The story says that Bale is in no rush to quit his lucrative contract with the La Liga giants however, and will only leave for another top club – Tottenham seemingly don’t fit under that criteria.
A blessing in disguise
This is good news for Spurs.

The club is known for having a tight-knit relationship between the squad, the manager and the supporters, and bringing Bale in on huge wages would potentially disrupt that.
Tottenham should only be looking for players that are desperate to don the white shirt to help them in their bid to be Premier League title contenders next term, and if The Mirror report is true it suggests the Welshman values money more.
While you perhaps can’t blame him for not wanting to lose the massive wage he is currently on, football needs to come first sometimes – especially when you are approaching your 30th birthday and have been injury-prone in the last couple of seasons.
Bale clearly isn’t that bothered about representing Spurs again, and they in turn should count their lucky stars that a deal looks unlikely to happen.
