da 888: Newcastle have kept the pressure on Chelsea and Arsenal in the race for fourth place by beating Norwich 1-0 at the Sports Direct Arena on Sunday.
A solitary Papiss Cisse strike sealed the victory for the hosts, which brings them within two points of Chelsea in fifth place.
Victorious manager Alan Pardew hailed the result as an important win, especially given the side’s injury concerns.
“It was important for us (to win). We weren’t at our best today, you could see that, we weren’t really firing on all cylinders,” he told Sky Sports.
“We had eight senior players injured yesterday so we really were playing people out of position.
“I think Yohan Cabaye must have done five different positions today but we saw it out, we ground out the win really.
“When you’ve got finishers on the pitch then they can nick you the win and that’s what we’ve done today
“We’re missing key players and, as I say, we’re a bit edgy but the last three games, we’ve deserved four points, we’ve really put in a shift and we’re hanging at the minute in that dressing room – really, really tired,” he concluded.
