Celtic correspondent Kieran Devlin has shared the club’s deadline day plans on The Athletic, revealing the Hoops are still on the lookout for a ‘big opportunity’.
The Lowdown: Busy month
The Bhoys have already brought in five players in 2022, adding to the 12 they signed in the summer.
Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi, Daizen Maeda and Matt O’Riley have gone on to make their Celtic debuts, whereas young forward Johnny Kenny appears to be a signing for the future.
Although it seems as if the club’s business could be finished, it appears as if Michael Nicholson and co are still open to making a move in the final hours of the window.
The Latest: Devlin’s claim
Devlin took to The Athletic on Monday morning to provide an update on possible incomings and outgoings at Parkhead.
He revealed ‘what’s being briefed’ is that the incoming side of things is ‘done unless a big opportunity presents itself’.
Devlin then added that Osaze Urhoghide is off to Oostende on loan, whereas Albian Ajeti could be heading back to join Basel. However, that deal is in no rush to be completed with the Swiss market open for a further two weeks.
The Verdict: Interesting…
Although it will need a ‘big’ opportunity to come to light over the coming hours, it’s good to see that Celtic are still willing to make a sixth and final signing this month.
Hopefully the club can move a number of fringe players on, and it’ll be interesting to know where the club would be looking to strengthen if one big chance jumps up.
Should Adam Montgomery leave on loan and Boli Bolingoli depart, perhaps another left-back could be of interest to rival what would be the remaining senior left-back Greg Taylor.
It will be a case of wait and see today, but at least the Hoops haven’t completely ruled out making an 11th-hour addition.
