da 888: Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has admitted that he is desperate to win the FA Cup for his side this season and has called Monday night’s clash against Arsenal ‘massive’.
da casino: The Gunners and Red Devils are two of the favourites to lift the trophy this season, with Manchester City and Chelsea already being knocked out in shock results.
Despite the Old Trafford outfit surely prioritising a top-four finish and qualification for next season’s Champions League, Rooney has stated that the FA Cup is a piece of silverware that he wants to bring to Manchester.
“We have an FA Cup quarter-final against Arsenal on Monday and that is massive for us,” Sky Sports quote the England star as saying.
“We haven’t been to a final for a few years, we want to try to win that game and we are looking forward to that.
“Of course, I think it is a massive trophy. It is a trophy that, growing up as a youngster, I used to love watching and I was fortunate enough to see Everton lift the FA Cup in 1995 when I was nine years old. It is something which I would love to do and hopefully it can be this year.”
Despite winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League since he moved to United from Everton, the England international has surprisingly never won the FA Cup.
Rooney has been used in a number of different roles this season, with Louis van Gaal coming in for criticism from some sections of the United faithful for the club captain being deployed in a midfield capacity and not in his favoured striker position.
