da gbg bet: On June 23rd-25th , illustrious golf course The Belfry will host one of the most unique tournaments in its history as 24 of the beautiful game’s greats do battle in a Ryder-Cup style golf competition, pitting England against the Rest of the World.
da 888casino: That’s right, some of the most recognisable names in football will switch sports and tee off ahead of a three-day affair that includes four rounds; the foursomes, four-balls and singles match-play action and the hotly-anticipated £1million swing, where a hole-in-one on the 18th will land a seven-figure sum for the winner’s respective charity and an impressive cash prize for the fan who can guess which player will achieve that feat.
2011 ‘The Open’ winner, Darren Clarke, will captain the Rest of the World, whilst Ryder Cup legend Lee Westwood will attempt to guide his England side to the title. But which icons will be representing the Three Lions?
Michael Carrick (14)
Manchester United’s unsung midfield maestro Michael Carrick comes in with a 14 handicap and will be hoping his pin-point passing and exceptional reading of the game can transition over to his golf swing. Often called upon by England managers as ‘Mr Reliable’, he’ll be delighted by the chance to represent the Three Lions again.
Andy Cole (12)
One of the greatest goalscorers in Premier League history, netting for seven different clubs in the top flight and winning the title five times with Manchester United, can Andy Cole bring his finishing ability to the putting green? As shown above, he might be very handy with the wedge.
Robbie Fowler (10)
Still referred to as simply ‘God’ by Liverpool fans, Westwood will be hoping Robbie Fowler can produce some divine intervention for this England team. Much like Andy Cole, the Kop legend’s accuracy in front of goal could make him a mean finisher with the putter.
Steven Gerrard (12)
Famed for his driving passes and long-range belters, Steven Gerrard could be England’s key when it comes to teeing off – and potentially the £1million swing. Having retired just a matter of months ago in November, however, the former England skipper’s not had as much time as many of his team-mates to hone his golf skills.
Phil Jagielka (7)
One of three England team members yet to hang up their boots, Phil Jagielka’s handicap is surprisingly short, considering how much time he devotes to old-fashioned defending at the heart of the Everton backline. A no-nonsense centre-back, he’s another strong candidate for those lengthy drives with the nine-iron.
Teddy Sheringham (5)
One of the more senior members of Westwood’s squad, the England Team captain will be turning to Tottenham and Manchester United favourite Teddy Sheringham for experience and leadership. Famed for cuteness and guile during his playing days, can the ex-England striker bring that intelligence to the golf field?
James Milner (6)
Industrious, experienced, technically astute and apparently very good at golf, James Milner’s the total sporting package – even if he’s gained a reputation for a rather uneventful social life. But Lee Westwood will love that professionalism and if there’s one thing you can never doubt about Milner, it’s his determination to win.
Paul Ince (9)
Golf may allow little opportunity for ‘The Guv’nor’ to stamp his authority on the opposition in the same way as he did in the 1990s, but Paul Ince is a fiery character who’ll add a lot to the England team. Westwood will be making sure he can transfer is passion for the beautiful game onto the beautiful course at The Belfry.
Alan Shearer (6)
Sheringham’s old England strike partner – don’t be surprised to see them link up again in the foursomes – and the Premier League’s all-time top scorer, can Alan Shearer bring his Midas touch to the golfing green?
Paul Scholes (9)
The midfield maestro’s passing accuracy was second to none during his many years in the Premier League and a handicap of nine suggests he could repeat that with his golf swing. Paul Scholes has never been the loudest of team members, but rarely fails in letting his talent do the talking.
Kevin Phillips (9)
A real fox in the box during his playing days, finishing up as Europe’s Golden Boot winner in 2000 with 30 top flight strikes for Sunderland, can Kevin Phillips bring his potency to the green? Having since moved into coaching, Westwood will be hoping Phillips can be another influential voice in the England camp.
