da dobrowin: Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann has come out in stern criticism of the manner in which his former club have handled their dealings in the transfer market this summer.
da bet nacional: The Reds embarrassingly announced the ending of their interest in Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk in a statement on their own site after allegations of tapping up from the south coast club, who are persistent they will not be selling their £25.5m-rated captain.
With that in mind, Hamann, who was part of the legendary Liverpool side who won the Champions League in 2005, has hammered the club for their handling of the situation, but still thinks they should bring the 26-year-old to Anfield this summer.
“That would be great [to sign Van Dijk],” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“Because he’s one of the best centre-backs in the league, but I think the club handled the situation poorly.
“Whether that will affect his decision I don’t know, but I’d love to see him at the club because I think he would improve the team no end.”
It’s quite clear what the Dutchman would bring to Jurgen Klopp’s side. As impressive as the Reds were going forward last season there were far too many scary moments at the back and, given the composure he showed at times last term, Van Dijk could be perfect.
