da apostaganha: According to reports in The Times, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton are all chasing highly-rated Manchester City starlet Bobby Duncan.
What’s the word, then?
da realbet: Well, The Times says that the Citizens are in danger of losing another one of their youngsters with the 16-year-old yet to sign a professional contract with them, and a number of their Premier League rivals are ready to pounce.
The England Under-17 international, whowas rejected by Liverpool when he was younger and is cousins with Steven Gerrard, has been in sparkling form for his country.
The Times adds that City would be entitled to compensation if the striker did move elsewhere, but they are hopeful that he will agree a new contract before his 17th birthday next summer.
How good is he?
He is very impressive.
He may only have turned 16 in June but he is already featuring for the City U18 side – making five substitute appearances, while his performances for the young Three Lions have been particularly impressive.
Duncan became the first English player at any level to score a hat-trick against Brazil when the England U16s beat Brazil 4-3 last November, while he scored the winning goal in the 3-2 win against Portugal for the U17s last week.
Will he sign a new deal?
It’s difficult to say.
The teenager will have seen Jadon Sancho leave for Borussia Dortmund during the summer after doubting whether he would get many first-team opportunities at the Etihad, and Duncan could easily feel the same way with the wealth of talent and money that Pep Guardiola has available to him.
However, Duncan would also need to consider whether his pathway to the first team would be any better if he did join Arsenal, Tottenham and Southampton, with the latter the place where he would potentially be most likely to get an opportunity.
That said, Mauricio Pochettino and Arsene Wenger have both shown they aren’t afraid to blood a youngster in the right situation, and many youth players will be impressed with the strides that Dele Alli has made after being given his opportunity by the former at Spurs.
What’s the verdict?
Well, while it is clear to see that Duncan is a huge talent, it is hard to tell whether he is willing to stay at Manchester City or move down south, miles away from his birthplace of Liverpool.
