Today we take a look at Celtic’s top 10 moments of the decade. The countdown starts with Martin O’Neill’s appointment in 2000 and touches upon all the highs then onwards. This countdown doesn’t disappoint and is sure to put a few smiles on the faces of the Celtic faithful.
10. In the summer of 2000 Martin O’Neill joined Celtic after the departures of John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish. In his first season he won the domestic treble and spanked Rangers 6-2 in his first Old Firm encounter. Knowone was sure how well the Northern Irish man would do at Celtic, but he didn’t disappoint to say the least.
9. On 21 November 2006, Nakamura scored perhaps the most important goal of his career to date with a 30-yard free-kick against Manchester United at Celtic Park in a crucial Champions League game. The goal resulted in Celtic winning 1-0 and progressing to the Champions League knockout stage for the first time.

8. The fans deserve a mention in this countdown. Over the last decade the faithful have remained true to the club despite things not always going the way they would want. Celtic are known all over the world for being the greatest fans in the world and now it is time for them to prove this by giving the team our full support and backing when they look like they may need it.
7. Signed by fellow Slovakian Dr Jozef Vengloš for a fee of just £300,000, he became a hero in the eyes of theParkhead faithful, forming an outstanding partnership with Henrik Larsson. Moravčík’s first two goals for Celtic came against their arch-rivals Rangers on 21 November 1998, in what turned out to be a memorable 5–1 victory
6. Celtic through the years have had some truly great players in their ranks, but this man deserves special praise. Henrik Larsson, a Swedish international is probably the only world class player to don the green and white hoops in the last 10 years. The Swede was signed from Feyenoord in July 1997 for £650,000, an absolute steal. He quickly became a fan favourite scoring 174 goals in only 221 appearances. 5. On the 11 March 2004 Celtic did the unthinkable and beat European heavy weights Barcelona. Alan Thompson smashed home a close range goal to give Celtic a first leg lead over Barcelona in a Uefa Cup tie that saw three players sent off.
4. Who can forget Celtic going to Anfield en route to the UEFA Cup Final. Prior to the match not many gave Celtic a chance of disposing Premier League big boys, Liverpool. Through the years Liverpool had made a name for themselves as being one of the best clubs in Europe, However they could not handle Celtic. Check out John Hartson’s wonder strike!
3. In 2007/2008 Celtic aimed to secure their third title in a row in Tommy Burn’s honour and they did it in style recovering from a seven point deficit in April to win it at Tannadice on the last day. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink’s 94th minute header to defeat Rangers brought Celtic back from the brink in a game memorable for Nakamura’s astonishing 35 yard volley and Celtic again defeated Rangers in a thrilling 3-2 encounter thanks to a Scott McDonald brace. The tide had turned and the Champions won every game to win the “Title for Tommy”.

2. Shortly after O’Neill’s appointment at Celtic, they faced bitter rivals Rangers in what promised to be a great game. The game finished 6-2 in Celtics favour and left only the Rangers support disappointed. Check out this clip to see just how good this game was.

1. At number 1 on the countdown we have Celtic’s trip to Seville for the 2003 UEFA Cup Final. Porto shattered Celtic’s hopes of winning their first European trophy for 36 years with a dramatic UEFA Cup final victory in Seville. A recorded 120,000 Celtic fans traveled to Seville for the match and reportedly drank the City dry with no trouble recorded. For that matter Celtic won the FIFA fair play award that season.
